Just like last time, there was a part of me that was upset that I didn't get to vote, because I LOVE the whole process of voting. And then it was all kinds of upsetting because the turnout was so low except for the crazies :/

Is there any particular reason why voters don't get the put in the ballot themselves?

The process is nice, yes. Even if I sometimes start to feel like some sort of voting geek, which also adds to my bafflement over why not more people take the opportunity to have fun and vote. And you can console yourself with that Norway at least has the nice idea to let you vote in communal elections separate from the national ones. Unlike here where they killed all fun except for once every fourth year in the name of efficiency. So the added oddly timed EU one is an improvement I'd say.

I have never seen any official explanation for our ballot box oddity. My only guess is that the original thought might have been that no one will have the possibility to put in two ballots held together. (While the rest of the world probably thinks that you in the name of democracy should be the one putting it in the box so no one can tamper with your vote.) Or maybe it's just a case of "that's how we've always done it" due to some law-maker happening to write it that way.
