kestratroi, thank you so much for suggesting AdAware for those gray popups that I've been experiencing.

I finally got it to do a complete scan through my computer(it's been timing out over a certain file...I think it got confused, it took a couple of tries and creative selection to get it to finish) and when it got done, I found I had sixty-four freaking ( Read more... )

64's not so bad. I gad 43 this afternoon - after reading this I remembered to scan. ;) - then I realised I needed to update the web definitions. So while that was downloading, I ran SpyBot which found another 83. After I ran that I ran AdAware again with the new definitions and found ANOTHER 81. :-[ lol.

I recommend using SpyBot in addition to AdAware, they'll each get ones that the other misses. http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10194058.html?tag=lst-0-1

Thanks for the advice. I'm taking time off before attempting any more downloads, though. I got seriously burned by one today and I've got to give it time or I'm going to rip my computer cords out of the wall and use them to toss the damn thing out the window in the general direction of Earthlink. In fact, I think I'm going to rant about it now.

*smoootch* Just downloaded SpyBot last night, and yep, it did pick up a hell of a lot that AdWare missed. It found all the ones that insert the popups, which is great. Thanks so much for the suggestion, I would have never found it on my own.
