However, I have a theory that people who find singlehood terrifying won't find someone they can have a long and happy marriage with anyway, because they tend to not know their own minds. How do you get to know someone when you don't even know yourself? IMHO, the best marriages/relationships are between people who are happy and comfortable being alone in the first place.

If you're being with someone for the sake of needing someone (ie: those who find singlehood terrifying), then you're not really loving the person for who he or she is, only as a piece of floating wood for you to cling on to to allay your fears and insecurities. Not really a gd recipe for a successful marriage imho!
