I'm trying to place the old story about a holy man who, when the angels offered him God's gift of working miracles of his choice, chose to go about doing good that he would never realize. I've seen Christianized versions, but I seem to recall that it was of Jewish origin--and, if so, I bet you'd be long since familiar with it. (I don't know whether you've ever seen Revolutionary Girl Utena, but I hope you'll forgive me for dropping a spoiler that's reached voting age: one of the most tearjerking points of the climax is that Utena fell from the Sky Castle despairing of her failure to free Anthy--unaware that she had in fact won Anthy the power to free herself.)

My point, of course, is that you have a similar gift, as you have repeatedly demonstrated; never forget that--and, yeah; the perpetually receding goalpost (no matter how impressive and concrete one's achievements) is the Curse of Slytherin, isn't it?

(By the way, there's a little something for you over at my own LJ.)

:) I'm sure at one point you've run across Emerson's poem about success--honestly by any definition, but especially his, you are a very successful person. Happy birthday dear <3
