There was not enough big outdoor installation work this year. My personal MO when it comes to things like this is to go to installation based work. Specifically things outside if possible to avoid stuff like: overcrowding and lineups. I like going to galleries, and I like seeing paintings and wall based work....but I do that a lot, so for me its ( Read more... )

I like the idea of each person (everywhere!) as a work of installation art. This needs to be explored further...

yeah, we all commented that next year we should do some kind of roaming thing. the nice thing about the umbrella is that it was very compact, and could be "shut off" whenever needed.

I wish you'd stayed out with us a little longer. It turns out there were a bunch of big installations. But they were all in the far west, around the mascots/furries cheering on the crowed football stadium performance art. We ended up staying up till 5ish wandering around that area. Highlights were:

- Yoko Ono - Imagine Peace giant billboard on a crane
- entire street blocked by a huge wall of barrels with nonsense text
- big installation made of packing containers that belched fog and blinked SOS in morse code.
- building with waterfall coming out of a third story window
- building with windows displaying video of fire (interrupted inexplicably by a truck full of people dancing to thriller)

Several smaller things as well, and then we ran into some friends of mine who also turned out to be friends of Heather's at a performance art piece where people throw things from high up and then smash them with sledge hammers.

Oh and we heard the glow lights in the park installation was actually stolen around 12pm so we just missed it.
