Puri Gorota/Otaku

Nodame the Otaku and Puri Gorota

I've been having Nodame throw Puri Gorota around in conversations a lot lately, basically because it's something easy for me to fall back on when I run out of ideas/struggling with the voice. And really, I think Puri Gorota is one of the more important things in her life, because she has awesome priorities like that!

Nodame is first and foremost a Puri Gorota otaku. It's a series that exists only in the Nodame Cantabile universe, and it is her absolute favourite and the one that she is a veritable expert on. She spends most of her money collecting the merchandise (sometimes sacrificing food, water, and electricity), re-reads and rewatches it constantly, and she even has most of the dialogue memorized. It's really a kid series that preaches the theme of FRIENDSHIP or something and is reminiscent of Doraemon. I'm far from an expert on Doraemon (having only seen a bunch of episodes as a child dubbed in Chinese), but I'm basically going to directly substitute Doraemon in for Puri Gorota when it comes to that canon and roll with it if she needs to go on more specific our Gorota spiels. Mostly though, I'll just have Nodame refer back to the Space Adventure Special that is featured in the drama/anime.

"Character Profiles" for the cast of Puri Gorota may follow one day so I can have a better idea of what I've got Nodame babbling about. If I can ever get that section from the Nodame Character Book translated, that is (ILU IMP ♥).

So Nodame is a hardcore Puri Gorota otaku, but she does watch and read other anime and manga series as well. She's referenced mostly older anime from the 80's and early 90's in canon, most notably "Rose of Versailles" (which I've personally never read but have heard great things about) and "Touch" (which I've watched about 60-ish episodes of and love to pieces). She's also referenced "A Dog From Flanders", "Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl", and "Rose and Plutonium" (I can't find ANY information on that series, unfortunately) as well. There isn't any concrete evidence that she follows any of the newer, more recent series (she was shown buying KISS, but that's more product placement considering it's where "Nodame Cantabile" is serialized). So, I'm going to play her as knowing anime/manga series that she would have followed as a kid/young teenager. I'm sure she would have been exposed to newer stuff on visits to Akihabara, but... this is Nodame we're talking about. She probably zoned in on some tiny Puri Gorota cellphone charm at the back of the store and was oblivious to everything else in her happiness.

In case anyone's worried (and I think there's only a few canons in camp that this would apply to, like Dragonball, Ranma 1/2, Sailormoon, probably Pokemon, MACH GO GO GO UFUFUFUFUFU MIFUNE GO ♥, GOD I DON'T REALLY KNOW) she's probably not going to do any fourth-wall breaking. She's got the heads-up from Hiro that the REAL characters from some anime/manga are in camp, and has probably convinced herself that if she says anything that might change the story, that could maybe alter the time-space continuum and she could end up back home with her life minus Chiaki!!! ... or something equally as retarded and probably put in her head by an episode of Puri Gorota. She will flail and fangirl if she recognizes anyone (HI SPEED RACER, HI HI), but that's about it.
