Thanks for the coffee, pal!

Hey Ambassador Palaeno, I came straight home and made myself a nice hot cup of that coffee I got from you and I gotta say, it's really great!

It kinda has a weird grainy texture to it...sorta like drinking hot water with coffee-flavored sand in it? Gives my throat a nice tickle! So guess this is what I've been missing out on all these years after ( Read more... )

Dick--

What did you do to that coffee?

I drank it like how I always drink coffee, sir.

I bet you did.

If I could, I would buy you a coffeemaker (with a safety auto shut-off), bring it to your apartment, and personally teach you how to use it.

Wish it were so, sir. By the way, how much do one of these coffeemakers cost?

Oh! You're very welcome, of course.

The coffee isn't actually supposed to be grainy, not when prepared traditionally. However, it's nice that you've found an alternate method of preparation that you can enjoy.

Do you happen to have a coffee maker, Detective?

Huh, you think maybe I did something wrong? The whole preparation process seems pretty straight forward enough.

A coffee maker? Oh, you mean like my old kettle, pal? Yeah, I got one of those.

You see, Detective, that coffee isn't the same as instant coffee, so you need a special device to prepare it!

A coffee maker has a basket that you put a filter in, and then you put the ground coffee in the filter. The hot water runs through the filter, so when the coffee brews, there are no grains in it.

We have coffee makers at the embassy, so the next time I see you, I can show you how it works.

Sounds kinda complicated so I appreciate it, pal! I plan on going out after work to find one of these coffeemakers of my own. Wish me luck!

Hey, detective - maybe you should ask Mr Armando how he makes his coffee. He's pretty close to being an expert on the subject. You might enjoy it even more next time.

Hmm, thanks for the tip, pal. He seems to get cranky whenever that particular topic comes up, but I think I'll give it another shot.

I... don't think you're supposed to drink the grounds too, sir!

... Unless that's some kind of European thing? It sounds kind of fancy if you think of it like that!

Yeah, pal! It was really gritty and kinda filling unlike regular coffee, y'know? But apparently I prepared it wrong.

I'll make ya a nice proper cup next time. How's that sound?

For me, sir? That's very nice!

Maybe you can bring some for after dinner tonight? If that's still on, I mean, sir.

Yeah you betcha! Sounds great!

So hey, you got one of those coffee-making-thingamajigs at your place?

Not to totally shoot down the comment above but no, that is NOT a European custom, Detective, and you should really... probably at least try to strain it next time?

You mean like with a colander? Who knew making coffee was so complicated, pal!
