Oh my heart! This is glorious. I love the way that you've caught the half-truths that Katherine always lives by and the similarities you've drawn between Katherine and Elena. Beautiful!

Exploring Katherine's motivations and headspace is so tricky (and sometimes disturbing), but you've done it beautifully here. I love the way you look at her relationships, the way that you maintain the focus on Katherine even when you're looking at Elijah and Damon, all without diminishing the roles played by Klaus and Stefan - because the relationship with the former is tied so closely with the latter. And I love love love the way you've shown that while she was keeping track of Stefan, she was keeping track of Damon too; I have always believed this to be true, and it's always exciting to find that someone else's headcanon matches mine.

The writing here is really lovely as well. It's concise and done in such a way that makes each and every word matter rather than feeling sparse. The different facets of Katherine - the part that is Katerina most of all - are so fascinating, and I so enjoyed the way you made them sparkle. And the ending, showing her with Elena and knowing that Damon is gone is both heartbreaking and weirdly satisfying ( ... )
