I'm glad they gave you the modern recipe. I'm not much of a cook in real life and I hate to cook, so trying to decypher a medieval cook book is not my bag. I think kids would have fun making it. And I don't think it tastes that weird to people who aren't used to medieval food.

bread crumbs must be dry..
other than that I have no advice
Its very kid friendly and very very moldable.Prepare for the stickiness though, some kids don't like that
