x. could be Sad Hill cemetery (from 'The Good The Bad and The Ugly'), in Spain, which was recently restored. Could the theme word be 'hill'? I thought at first the theme was simply railway stations (and it could still be).

(Google sez:) Catthorpe to Gretna is the M6, Bodmin to Mansfield is the A38, and their joining is Spaghetti Junction! Google-o for iii): Limerick Junction station is right next to a racecourse which features the Concorde Stakes and the Istabraq Hurdle, apparently.

vii is Junction Road Station (from a poem by Betjeman)
viii looks like it might be Toledo Junction (a name I only know from a dodgy pub in Paisley back in the day, but assume it refers to something else as well)
