Trying *very* hard to be...not...crushed?

Well, it's official. I had the hard-drive checked, and it officially went bad. If I wanted to pay a few hundred dollars to get it recovered, I suppose I could try that route, but it's awfully hard to rationalize that sort of..investment ( Read more... )

d-bunny, you have my gigundous sympathy.

What are the odds on retrieving the information? If it's more likely than not that you can get the files back...do you have the few hundred dollars? I'm sorry...I have no idea what your situation is. But if you are feeling all superficial and decadent and stuff about spending money on this while people are starving elsewhere.... Please don't. I mean, if you can't pay the rent, or you'd have to drop out of school for a semester, then clearly you shouldn't spend the money trying to retrieve the files. But if your guilt is of non-specific origin ("It's only a television show!") then let me endorse the expenditure. Look, we know that either way, it's not gonna save the world. But that's okay. It's still meaningful to you, to all of us, freaks of nature that we are.

(Ask for your money back either way. One week? That sucks.)

Thanks for the sympathy, it does help a bit. ;)

My boyfriend was really trying to get me to consider spending the money to give retrieving it a try, but I just can't get myself to do it. The episodes are out there for free, and even though I lost some fan art of my own, I can always make more, right? :) I'm actually dealing with it quite well, I think. In fact, I may use it as an excuse to power some extra creativity or something.

And yeah, I asked for the money back. I'll just write all the stuff I can find again onto CD and save up for a new computer system of my own, with like, a couple of 200 GB hard-drives. ;D

Hey sweetie---if you're on a Mac, I can help you. I've got a pretty good track record for data recovery on all Macs. (Even then though, I have to tell you it's still a 50/50% chance for full recovery.) If you're on a PC though, I might be able to help if you have an IDE hard drive. Otherwise, Drive Savers would be the best bet even though they cost an arm and a leg.

Unfortunately, drive technology just sucks in general and even I (the frequent backer-upper) have lost stuff. C'est la vie, non?

Sorry you had to experience the loss though. Here's wishing you much luck for the future. :)

Awe, thanks for thinkin' of me. :) It was a PC drive, and I looked at the Drive Savers' website earlier, but I just decided I needed to do the clean slate thing, and just start over.

I'm trying to look at it as a reason to get geared up to make more things to replace what I lost, and if I'm patient, I know I can re-collect all the epsides that I lost.

But again, thanks for the offer and the luck, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. :}

Glad to make the offer and make ya warm and fuzzy.

Anyways, hey I understand. I do the same thing. If I lose something, so be it. I try to be zen about it. But at the same time, I once lost 3 years of passwords when Outlook Express corrupted itself (damn Microsoft!). So now, when it's really THAT important, I print it out. So much for the paper-less digital age, heheh. ;)
