Yay for more of this! And for Peter facing up to his past. I LOVE how you mirror emotion with action, like the tongue biting and this:
He scrubbed his forehead suddenly, as if to scour away the memory of unpleasant truths.

Genius!

Thank you for the kind words.

Peter Carlisle is a joy to write. He is, by turns, so open and trusting only to do a complete 180 when you (or at least I) expect it. He's a complex man, full of complimentary contradictions which, in my universe, makes him a perfect match for Donna.

Thanks again for the comments. This was a lovely thing to wake up to this morning.

(Accidentally posted this twice for some reason and had to delete one. Oops!)

Love this crossover series! Ditto to what Sykira said with showing Peter's emotions through his tics. The phrase, "scour away the memories" in particular packed a punch, considering the circumstances. Hmmm and is there a jealous Doctor with a perception filter sneaking around, perhaps?

You are too kind, and your comments keep me writing.

Yeah, that phrase about scouring away memories just snuck in during the last draft before posting. I tend to write in layers- dialog first, then actions in the second draft and finally turns of phrase at the end. I've actually got 90% of the dialog done for the whole story- it's the actions and editing that kill me.

Thanks again!

Writing in layers? Interesting. I usually try to do a rough draft all in one go and touch up everything in a few passes. I've been writing some stage plays lately for school...enough to forget how to write prose properly, it would seem. Maybe I'll give your method a try.

Well, his confession could've gone a lot worse, so that's good that he still has his partner. And was even prodded into asking Donna. I cannot wait for that scene at the pub! ;D

Lovely banter between them as always, even if I wonder if Sylvia will still make a scene. She IS freaked for her daughter's life, after all.

That's it. The Doctor is going to earn a flipping slap. He's behind this. Hopefully he soon overhears something to make him question his own actions, right down to the mind-wipe itself.

Well, Peter is just now realizing how fortunate he is to have Ian as a partner and a friend and not just foe his connections. I wanted Peter to voluntarily come clean, at least to Ian, so that if the rumors ever do come around, he has someone at his back.

Banter- oh, I love dialog and word play! I dream in words, not pictures, usually and there are times when I sit up straight in bed and have to grab my phone or tablet to get whole pages of dialog I've overheard in my sleep down before I forget. I can't tell you how many stories I have in dialog form on my computer, but I can't do anything with them until I finish with Peter and Donna.

And as always, I wonder if you've been peeking at my notes?

Thanks so much for the comments- school's about to start and comments are a great way to get me out of bed and at my computer when I'm reluctant to even move.

Thank you for the kind words.

BTW, isn't this Chapter 23? I don't remember a 22.3 or 22.4, but I could be misremembering.

That's what I get for posting when I'm tired. I really meant for it to be 22.2 as I consider last week's post to be anemic and incomplete 'cos it was so short. (I'm desperately trying to keep this from being longer than promised- this behemoth is already more than 100,000 words. ) Thanks for the catch- I'll fix it ASAP.

Good that Peter came clean with Ian, I think he may have found a real friend there, one who will keep him on the straight and narrow right along with Donna.

As for Donna, she's sensing the Doctor watching her. Eleven is getting a little more reckless; he'd better watch his step or he will ruin his best friend's life. Yes, that "ginger goddess" had better watch out for Donna! Finding out that Peter's colleagues were placing bets went better than I thought... and the blue/green/ "ahem" decision on Peter's part was excellent. I bet the Doctor pushed that guy on purpose to stop Peter and Donna from kissing. Jealous!

He almost spilled the beans about what Ian found out about her... not good, and she's not likely to leave it alone, either.

Ah. That. He's made some reasonable peace with it, seems like, as much as could be expected.

"Invisible" Doctor is being stalkerish and protective and stuff it looks like. Oh Doctor.

Aaaand now he's pulled the jealous!Doctor routine and pulled the 'reeling giraffe' trick and interrupted the kiss. Doctor Doctor Doctor.... *headshake*

Mmm, yeah, what exactly DOES make Peter Carlisle blush??
