no one seems to be around today they must've all gone off without me again

OH MY FUCKING FUCK, LJ IS AT IT AGAIN. [FLAG THAT POST, PEOPLE!]

For serious. It's ONE THING for someone to be able to flag their own content as Adult or Explicit or whatever. But turning everyone into the Thought Police so we can rat out everyone else because we don't feel comfortable with what they say is FUCKING CENSORSHIP ( Read more... )

big brother is watching you, george orwell is not amused, fuck, people suck, lj: trouble, language

I'm very much WHATEVER about this latest thing, and I don't even know why. Probably because I don't expect them to do anything right anymore.

And thanks for the link, it gave me the impetus to finally change my default setting to receiving no virtual gifts, since that's something I've been wanting to do for a long time, I just haven't been motivated enough to actually go and look for it.

I think figuring out new variations on swear words could be the most fun we make for ourselves in the foreseeable future.

Aww, you don't like vgifts? I've blocked the sponsored ones ever since they first appeared, but I'm good with the regular ones.

I actually *love* the idea that comm mods can now set default Adult Content instead of having to go to the trouble of checking each new member's journal to see if they're lying about their age. That part is awesome.

And so is the fact that some of the flagging options will take you to the Abuse form and then you have to fill that up with proof. And that Adult Content is voluntary and what not. Some of this stuff is ok.

But people being able to flag other people's posts is just freaking CREEPY.

COCKLICKER GRANDAUNTFUCKER.

It's not that I don't like vgifts, it's that they don't really do anything, and if someone wants to show appreciation, I'd be much happier with a post telling me (or several people, as the case may be) so. Especially if they're in the form of picspams. And if someone really feels the burning urge to buy me something, two months' worth of extra user pics is only 2 dollars, and at least that way I get something useful and LJ doesn't get money for doing nothing ( ... )

Right, I get that the money could be spent in something useful. [Tangent: I still wish LJ would let us buy *extra* extra icons. I'm very ready to have 200 userpics. *g*]

I'm fairly certain this flagging brouhaha is 6A/LJ once again trying to cover their asses against liabilities. And I wonder which soccer mom organization threatened to sue this time around.

The "illegal content" warning at least leads you to the Abuse form, so people will have to gather proof before sending in the complaint. Still, fandom is such a murky place with regards to what's legal or not that I won't be surprised if several wanks come out of this. SIGH.

haha, the first thing I did was flagging the post (theirs not yours, of course), when I read it. because it was offensive!
while I agree that some that is quite ok, I expect lots of flagwars going on from now, with everybody being able to randomly flag people they don't like.
and let's be honest according to their standards a good amount of fandom post is "explicit" to put it nicely. heeee.

Yeah, being able to flag other people's posts makes me incredibly wary. Especially since enough flaggings lead to The Abuse Team and we all know how reliable they are. *eye roll*

Yeah, tell me about it. *g* And the Marta chick keeps saying in comments that Explicit Content is what you'd consider to be NC-17. Except that rating is for MOVING PICTURES, not text. As always, LJ = confusing.

First flagged, second changed the default filtering for search, but third is a question: what do I say about my own journal? It sometimes contains explicit content, but dude. This so bothers me (not me posting it and not having to categorize things but having other people categorize it for me)...

The last sentence made me laugh though... :D

I left my journal with the "No Adult Content" default not because I don't post any, but because it's nobody else's business. And yeah, other people being able to flag us is downright CREEPY.

If I swore like a sailor before, now I just have the added fucking incentive. *g*

I'm a huge fan of the person who commented to that post saying basically that working class parents are to blame for this and that if the woman can't afford to stay home with her children then she should never have children at all. Oh Internet, where would I find such intelligence if not for you?

My favorite comments are the person who said they're no one's mommy, and the person who replied saying she *is* someone's mommy, but she doesn't want anybody else doing the parenting for her. FTW.

And people still wonder why I don't EVER want to have kids.
