I'm kinda removed from *fandom itself* right now, but I still read friendsfriends A LOT, so I usually know the gist of what's going on. Still, my own flist EXPLODED this past couple of weeks. Insanity.

I love wank when it's some Harry Potter BNF suddenly exploding -- those are always fun. *g* But now it's big corporates and fundies coming after fandom, and that makes me sick. :(

I think the difference is that when some random BFN explodes, no matter how big, it's always been insular to fandom itself. There were risks to the subculture before [Cassie Clare and the whole plagiarism issue come to mind], but what's scary this time around is that the wanks come from outside of fandom, and they both can do some HUGE ASS actual harm within fandom.
