The first chapter was purely backstory to remind us of what happened in the past 5 books... which drives me crazy that Rowling thinks we have to be retold every little detail
Gosh, was I the only person on Earth to like chapter 1?
I liked it because it showed the Muggle and the Magical worlds colliding...I liked it because it was our introduction to a much more kick-ass Minister than Fudge (though he is still a politician, and as such, a bastard that only wants propaganda for himself)...I liked to picture Tony Blair talking to Fudge...I liked the humour of it...well, I liked it! ;)
I liked the first chapter. It's a very amusing read, and it makes it clear that the war in the Magic world is having effects in the Muggle world... but other than that, the chapter adds nothing to the rest of this book's narrative. For a long while there I was expecting more about how the Muggle world was being affected, and... nothing.
Of course, I do expect that to come forth in the next book, especially if it does turn out to be a big journey-type narrative. :)
