So for the past few weeks, I've been obtaining episodes of a certain British TV show for a work-friend of mine, who is not fannish and not plugged into fannish means of obtaining stuff, but who managed to suss out that I am. No big deal, right, because I have a pretty easy means of getting my hands on it and that's what we do--if I can get my ( Read more... )

A friend will obtain media for you.
A good friend will watch it with you.
Your best friend will write you kinky rarepair porn about it when it's not even Yuletide yet.

hahahahah!!! Love it.

Ahahaha, and the "other thing we do," according to devildoll, upon meeting new people, is to ask "what do you read/write?" instead of "what do you do?"

LOL! Yes. This.

And instead of jobs/cities/CV-like sharing, it's the "What's your fandom history?"

Haha, definitely!

Oh, man, that reminds me of the time I went to MediaWest to meet up with other people who were into, uh, Man from UNCLE? (in 2004? it was a ... thing, for like six weeks, for me) and someone mentioned being into Due South and I said, "Oh! ME TOO!" and then "...wait, which Ray?" and there was this moment of GENUINE TENSION before she answered.

LOL! YES! That… Yes, there are totally those moments (and depending how long you've been in a fandom, or where you came from, you might have weathered things like the Ray Wars, or the Oz/EmCity meltdown, and sometimes I want to pat the heads of kids and say "oh baby, you have *no* idea" when they're talking about fannish spats now.)

Also, wow, '04. Is that when we met the first time? (not at MediaWest, in Chicago of course. LOL.)

That was '03! You were one of the very first fans-from-the-internet I ever met! <3
