Yeah, I had heard Cowboys and Aliens disparaged in a number of ways, but I think--allowing that it takes place in a racist and sexist milieu--the actual narrative didn't strike me as racist or sexist, and other than that... it's a summer action movie! THINGS BLOW UP, DANIEL CRAIG IS HOT, JOB WELL DONE.
I cried like a motherFUCKER during that part (you know, THAT PART) of I Love You Philip Morris. It was fucking tragic. I have to say it's one of my top 10 movies of the last 10 years. Like no parts of that movie should have worked: JIm Carrey as our protagonist slash romantic lead, Ewan I Am Really Scottish McGregor as adorable as fuck Philip Morris, the fact that this is based on a fucking TRUE STORY. But I love it. And it works. And the best part is that I totally believe that he's just going to break out again and break Philip out so they can be together and he can take care of his true looooooooove.
I seriously got choked up and yet was like WHAT NO THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING, THIS CANNOT BE HOW THE MOVIE ACTUALLY GOES and then, of course. And, yeah, I kept expecting to want to cringe away from the movie, but it just. kept. being. ADORABLE.
And, idk, I can kind of see him embracing the fact that there is literally nothing he can do for Phillip now except just love him from where he is. (Plus, also, RUN AWAAAAY, PHILLIP. I KNOW HE LOVES YOU AND YOU LOVE HIM AND EVERYTHING, AND YOU'RE SUPER ADORABLE TOGETHER WHEN HE'S NOT RUINING YOUR LIFE, BUT. RUN AWAAAAAAAAAY.)
