The problem with Jess Mariano is that in canon, he was a douche for no apparently good reason, except that his mom was kooky. And "douche" has nothing on "tragic hero double-agent with long-lost love for Lily Potter."

I think, especially as the brackets wore on, there was also some large vs. small fandom stuff in play; even if Arthur Pendragon's fanonical childhood is by and large nothing to bring out the violins over, more people have read more fic about him than about Jess, so people tended to vote for him. I think.

But also, yeah, it's pretty hard to trump the fanonical manpain GOLD MINE that is Severus Snape.

2) Oh my God, I finally finished the Southland telepathy fic. That's only been since JULY. And now I am DONE. \o/

It's honest to God nowhere near long enough for how long it took me to write, but it is DONE and that is the main thing. \o/

Sometimes it's a shock to discover how hard it is to write something that, for the effort put in, seems short, but honestly, I think I like a well-polished short piece much, much better than a slap-dash long one. Good for you, finishing it! I'm sure it's awesome.

I don't think there's been enough fic that deals with his childhood for him to have developed a really bad fanon one. God knows, I assume it was pretty bad--but his real trauma hit him when he was all grown up and ready to blame himself for it.
