I wrote this a couple of days ago, because something along these lines had been rattling around in my head since I saw the third episode of the second season of CSI, and because one of the lines of dialogue got stuck in my head and would not be removed by any other means but writing it down. Yeah, I know nothing of these people, but this was really good. I liked it. I could see it as the opening scene of something longer. Not that I'm encouraging that. Not before the Numb3rs one is done, anyway. *grins*

Just read this and I wanted to say, I loved it. I always love the Catherine and Gil dynamics, but I particularly loved seeing Gil react intellectually (Statue of Limitations, cataloging of evidence, etc.) and *then* reacting emotionally. And I love that Catherine waited for it.

Of all the reactions to "Overload", I think this may be the best I've seen. I think you have the Catherine-Gil dynamic down perfectly - Catherine's concern for Nick and (long-suffering) patience with Gil come through perfectly. And Gil's ultimate reaction - head to the firing range - says everything he doesn't.
