LJ Idol, Topic 27: "Once Upon a Dream"

Once upon a time, there was a little boy who believed in magic, and miracles, and dreams, and the great mysteries of life. He spent his time with his head in the clouds, dwelling amidst castles of ivory, flights of dragons and other wonders, each more fantastic than the last ( Read more... )

Wonderful, and I can relate to it.

Also reminds me of the quote from the last Harry Potter book, something like: "Of course it's all in your head, but that doesn't mean it's not real."

I don't remember that particular quote, but then there are seven books worth of good quotes for me to forget. Heh. And how true it is, though! I'm also toying with the idea of doing a "What I believe" post along these same lines.

cheers,

Which one? *My* final one, or Shakespeare's? :)

Regardless, thanks for the comments. And thanks for coming by.

Yours! Shakespeare's is nice, but I could swear I've read it somewhere before... lol. ;)

You're welcome. :)

I really liked how you showed the beauty of both sides of rationality/imagination, and how meaningfully they can coexist in the same person.

The Shakespeare quote made for a wonderful ending to the argument you'd built up.

It's been one of my favorite quotes ever since I read it back in high school. Shakespeare can be dense and impenetrable sometimes but there are a lot of gems buried in the flowery language. I like it, anyway.

Glad you enjoyed the piece! And thank you for stopping by.

cheers,
Phil

Don't we all have two sides this way? I know I do!

Apparently a lot more of us have two sides like this than I thought. The response to this piece has been pretty enthusiastic. Yay for us!

Thanks for coming by. :)

I'm a rational person. Except I love the idea of "magic" in life. Not that of Harry Potter (though I'd love it of it were true... Maybe?), but of all the things we can't answer. My ex used to hate when I'd say crazy things like "maybe in our lifetime they'll get a human to Mars!" or whatever because he'd say that was ridiculous. But who knows how far we can come?

I also like to think about other fantastical elements and would love to believe in them.

That's it exactly -- I would love to believe in a lot of the things I read about, or see, or hear. I just can't accept them at face value as a lot of people tend to do (see: religion). But we definitely have gone a long way as a species by dreaming and thinking about what MAY be possible.

Thanks for chiming in!

cheers,
Phil
