"Theme? I don't need no stinkin' theme!"

Well, that's what I said to dessert_first, anyway. But I do have one. A theme, that is. The theme for this week is "dS fic that changed my fannish experience ( Read more... )

Awesome recs! I love crossover stories since playing with the casting alone affords a lot of good drama/humour/WTF-ery. I've written HCL/S&A and dS/S&A crossovers, and man, that's fun stuff to visualize and plot. Oh, and two of recs you've chosen are brand new to me! I can't wait to read them, particularly the Hot Fuzz/dS crossover (oh, the crack. Delicious crack).

I am familiar with Isis' story, and it is a great example of how to effectively cross two worlds (even if they're both C6D): I love the framing device she uses - it's creative and funny and makes for an excellent way to justify the meeting of the Wilby Wonderful and dS worlds.

Anyway, re: Wilby Wonderful. It is available online, but if you'd like to have a copy of your very own I would be more than happy to order one from amazon.ca and send it (along with other Certain Mysterious Items) in a Canadian care package. I adore the film, and it's something everyone should see. Oh Wilby *hugs it*

Side note: This may be the best book title ever. So weird!

New-to-you recs? \o/

Hmmn, we may have to discuss the care package thing. I'll spam you at some point (but will just *snuggle* you for now).

Funny, but possibly too strange to be read. *g*

I love x-overs, and I, apparently, am guilty of writing them as you pointed out here ::grins:: (thanks for the rec).

Isis' story is a great example of how great a well-written x-over can be!

Dude, you and missapocalyptic are no slouches in the crossover department yourselves. It is my great pleasure to rec that story. *g*

In the US, Wilby Wonderful is distributed by the Film Movement and is currently available direct from their site.

Great idea. I am not even sure if I've seen all of these before. I can't believe we're getting your recs for a whole month, lucky, lucky us!

Eeek! No, not a whole month, just this week. Then it's back to ... whatever we do when it's not guest-rec week. Although I'd be completely thrilled to spend time poring over fic archives looking for a months' worth of recs. Unfortunately, I'm still at the point of having to work for a living, and no one seems willing to pay me for my fannish works. *sigh* Thanks for the vote of confidence, anyway.

I have to say, that it is so funny and cool that you recced these three stories. First of all, I haven't read them, which is awesome, because I love reading new things, and secondly, though I don't alway like crossovers, many times because I don't know the second fandom, this set was particularly amusing. The day before you posted them, I had been talking about Hot Fuzz with several friends, I had lent season two of Slings and Arrows out to another friend, and had forced someone else to watch Wilby Wonderful, which is really oh so very awesome, and you really should see it. Multiple times if you ask me, as it gets better every time I watch it.

I got mine at Borders. I just ordered it and it arrived a few days later. Thank you for this. I am still reading them, but I really enjoyed the first one, and am looking forward to the other two. I didn't know they existed. Thanks.
