I'm so pleased you liked the story, and its conclusion! (Also, icon!love.)

And the ending is so. I might actually be tearing up a bit. ♥!
"Welcome to love outside of poems," said Ray.
Not that far outside. This fic is lovely.

The portraits of Fraser's childhood were poignant and sometimes painful (thank goodness for George to balance out Martha), but the scene in the sub made up for all of it. Yay happy endings!

And Martha...you know, I may be the only one in all of DS fandom, but actually I'm weirdly fond of Martha, in the same headdesk-y way I'm fond of Bob. I love the bit in "One Good Man" about her saving the Inuit schoolchildren while getting severely burned herself, and anyway there's something inherently awesome about being a frontier librarian. My idea is that she was kind of a force of nature, crammed full of integrity and intellect and principle and intimidating as hell to most people - including her son, who inherited her tendency to steamroller people and her inability to express affection, even when deeply felt. See her interactions here with both George and Benton. [/tl;dr]
Anyway, yeah, both "childhood" and "love" are areas of extreme woobiehood for canon!Fraser, so I really, really wanted to give him happiness at the end. So glad you enjoyed it!

you know, feedback is a very strange thing, and even after all this time i'm not used to having to articulate how i feel about something that i am reading for pleasure. like, right now? i am full of LOVE and GRATITUDE for this story, but so completely floored by it that i really don't know what to say.
if you were in the room with me, i'd be doing something inappropriate, like HUGGING YOU, or grabbing you and SPINNING YOU AROUND THE ROOM in my glee.
as far as i'm concerned, this IS fraser. you've captured some essential thing about him, and SO beautifully.
and OMG, so much YES to: "Ray," Fraser managed, fitting in another kiss. Delightful, delicious, annoying...
YES. that's RAYK, too.
thank you for this. i am nothing but glitter-hearts and love right now. it's amazing i can even type.

First of all, hugging and spinning around the room is always appropriate and appreciated, as far as I'm concerned.
Secondly, I am so thrilled to hear you liked the story and thought the Fraser was convincing. I do love him so. And I have massive love (though heretofore from afar) for you and your fics and podfics, so seriously, thrilled.
And thirdly...I appear to be having my own glitter-hearts issues about your feedback, so I can't think of what I want to say thirdly, but yeah. Thank you so much for the lovely comment! ♥ !

I am delighted with your Martha. I find Martha intriguing, and I actually like her a lot (you are not the only one!). I think we have similar views on what she was like. I love this part:
"You'll be handsome enough for all reasonable uses, Benton," she murmured. "I wouldn't wish for more than that, if I were you."
The fairy-tale perspective on Victoria is interesting:
He didn't know how he claimed to be any kind of student of folklore. It occurred to him, years later, lying in the scratchy pale hospital sheets, that there was no culture on Earth that wouldn't have known how to advise him on black-haired women with lovely voices found in the wild, harsh reaches of the world.
The following part is just really funny:
"I'm sorry, I'm...I'm not really dressed for company ( ... )

I have a thing for Fraser backstory, and the thread of fairy tales and chivalry running through this feels so right.
Thanks! Well, you know, DS has been described as an "urban fairytale," so given the whole whimsy vs. reality thing I wanted to riff on that. I totally had a particular book in mind for wee!Fraser's storybook, btw. Selling one of those would indeed have given the Fraser library some extra funds, but I don't know if I ever could let go of a copy, either.)

She taught Fraser to box out of books! ♥ ! Someone needs to fic that, can you imagine? And you know, if she and George were in China "before the war," - dude, that was a pretty unsettled time. They must have had some adventures.

I originally intended to have Fraser there thinking of Keat's "Lamia". I do think that ( ... )

You should so write more Martha! I actually have a WIP about Martha's early years. In my head, she ran away from home because her dad wanted to marry her off to the neighbor's boy, and she wanted more out of life than that. And then her schoolteacher helped her get a room in the city, so that she could study...I have no idea when I'll finish this, though, because it would involve so much research. I do have a couple of stories and snippets about Martha and the rest of the Fraser family, you can find them here if you're interested.
If I've managed not to overwhelm the entire damn story by bunging in random poems, I'm immensely relieved. But yeah, I had way too much fun picking them all out.I don't think you overwhelmed it at all! I mean, if an author ( ... )
