Ray always thought that if he knew that he would die, he would try to sleep with as many people as possible before that last night. He would proposition everybody he saw, and finally agree to do it with all the weird badge chaser babes that he turned down before because these girls already slept with half of the department.
Then, on that last night, he would find Stella. And they'd just be with each other and not sleep together and it would be perfect.
Except, when that certain doom of the last night finally came in concrete form, Ray couldn't get it up for anyone. Not even the virgin eighteen year old who came to his door with soft brown hair and a shy smile.
Instead, he found himself alone in his apartment drinking heavily to the gun shots and shouting outside. He hadn't seen Fraser in a few days and he figured maybe Fraser really did live out his last night the way Ray had always imagined his own.
But then of course he was wrong about that too because Fraser came over at nine o'clock dressed in his uniform, but without his hat. There was actually a gun in his holster and Ray was pretty sure that this time it was loaded. Fraser saw Ray looking at the gun at his side and nodded. Then Fraser pushed Ray back into his apartment and kissed him.
It wasn't the kiss of his dreams. He could taste ash and blood in Fraser's mouth and Fraser's mouth was kind of clumsy considering how often he used it to lick things. But the kiss was perfect, perfect, perfect.
