This episode annoys me because there is no way in Hell a family service worker would have had the time/energy to investigate ONE case of food posioning. DFS is too poorly funded; they have to be good at prioritizing.

Well, she was a young family service worker, and that logic depends on the optimistic assumption that all of them have common sense. There are actually family service workers that would harass gay couples while ignoring cases of abuse by WASP. ...and social service varies from place to place. In Ontario, we actually have a Catholic one, that appears to be in a state of SNAFU considering the Jeffrey case...*head-desk*

The doctor mentioned that they called in to protect themselves legally, maybe the social service yanked the kids for that too. Her being a single parent might have earned her more scrutiny, especially when she was 'uncooperative'.
