The World's Slowest Big Bang!
20,000 words or art!
9 months!
More fandoms than you can shake a stick at!
Everyone loves a long, plotty story. The longer the better. Stories involving our favorite Canadians are even better, right? The point of this challenge is to encourage long plotty stories starring our favorite Canadians by offering you some lovely art to go with your story.
The minimum length is 20,000 words in which you have nine months to complete. Nell wanted to give everyone plenty of time and we've tried to schedule this to avoid too much conflict or stress. 20,000 words in nine months works out to roughly 2,222 per month or 555 words per week or 80 words per day. That's not much at all. Anyone can do 80 words a day...
Fandoms you can write in include due South, anything in the
c6d fandoms (if you're not sure your fandom fits, please email one of the mods. The answer is probably yes but it's good to check), RPF/RPS and crossovers (as long as the dS_c6d characters are central to the crossover). Any genre, any style is fair game, so here's your chance to write that ds/Heroes crossover written as a pastiche to H.P. Lovecraft. Or a noir detective story starring Billy and Joe. Or something.
If you're an artist, we want you to create some kind of art to go with a story that you've picked because the summary sounded interesting to you. At a minimum of three months before go-live, a list of anonymous story summaries will be posted. Artists can make their choices on a first-come, first-served basis. You can choose a maximum of three stories to make art for. Art includes banners, photo manipulations, original art, vid, icon sets (20 icons to the set) or anything you would like to try your hand at. Get creative!
And because podfics are becoming a wonderful part of fandom, we thought we'd include podfics as an "art", with the caveat that any podfics will probably not be ready by the go-live date. So if an artist chooses your story to podfic, it might be a little late. But we think it will be worth the wait.
We'd like to see a little more interaction between the writers and the artists, but how you want that to work will between each individual writer and artist.
Go check out the
rules and then head over to the
sign up post to get started.
If you're neither an artist nor a writer but still want to participate, there will be plenty for you to do.
We'll need people to
cheerlead the writers. This does not mean you get a short skirt and some pom-poms. This does mean lots of hand-holding and reassurance and being there to bounce ideas off of. Possibly even reading and reading and re-reading parts of their story. Writers tend to need a lot of love and petting.
We need people to
beta for the writers. This means getting out your red beta-pen-of-doom. We'd like all the stories to be beta'd by at least two people so even if you've never beta'd before, please consider trying. If English is not your native language, even better. Those who have English as a second language tend to be better about picking out typos and grammar errors.
We need people to submit
prompts. Prompts are not required but it would be nice to have a bunch for writers to choose from.
We need people to help with making mod icons, participation and pimping banners, help design the website and the LJ and a whole host of other things. This is important because Nell would like to have a website to rival the SGA Big Bang's. Please check out the
volunteer post for more information.
We're toying with the idea of holding chats once or twice a month - giving everyone a chance to bitch, to brainstorm, the complain, to let off steam, to find cheerleaders or betas or just for the heck of it. Stay tuned for chat details.
