Their handshake was proper and polite, a physical affirmation of the "nice to meet you" and "let's hope the season goes well" that came before. His hand was warm and dry and gripped hers firmly before letting go. She wondered if maybe he could crush her. She half-wanted to find out.

The first time he kissed her he wasn't himself. The slow caress was scripted; when he slipped his hands over her shoulders and up into her hair she was ready for it and responded in character. Every detail had been blocked out in advance. His eyes might have held hers a second or two longer than called for, but she was the only one who noticed and even she wasn't really sure. The wicked smile he gave her when he pulled away, though, that was pure Geoffrey, wasn't in any script anywhere. She sent an answering one right back at him and didn't really give a shit if anyone noticed.

When rehearsal was over he pulled her into the wings and kissed her for real. No script, no director, no road map, nothing but his mouth and his breath and his hands in her hair. Improv had its moments, she thought, and pulled him even closer.
