it's such a nice little surprise every time i eat something, read through the ingredients, and get to find out that i'm not eating any animals!

I don't think most baguettes are vegan. Egg, whey, butter? I guess it depends on where you're getting them, who's making them, and whether they're fresh or not.

my whole foods didn't have a single baguettes with eggs whey or butter. i asked the baker and he said that traditionally baguettes have egg whites brushed on top to make them pretty right there, but none really in the recipe so that it doesn't fluff out as much as loaves of bread would. that's awesome! i'm thinking about moving towards veganism, i've already cut eggs and straight-up milk out of my diet, next is cheese.

I always thought that most bread had eggs in it. A lot of bakeries in grocery stores list the ingredients on the bag the bread comes in...we should research this!

Baguettes are vegan, as long as you don't have a problem with eating yeast. They are living organisms you know! :) Baguettes are traditionally made with yeast, salt, flour and water, sometimes with the addition of malt (for flavor), and a dough conditioner. At the French bakery I work at, we do not egg wash any of our bread. They are also all vegan. Things start getting shifty when you start adding preservatives, so if you are buying bread, always try to buy it from a bakery of some sort, unless you can guarantee that it is vegan friendly. One bread you should stay away from is Brioche... it is made with lots of eggs and lots of butter.

I hope this helps, Phi!
