I am seeking the name of a novel by Sheri S. Tepper which describes children inheriting their parents debts and then being raided for organs, ultimately being reduced to a brain in a small black box with sensory apparatus and mechanical arms ( Read more... )

If you can't find it, sticking a YASID request (Yet Another Story ID) up on rec.arts.sf.written is probably the fastest way to get an answer. Their response rate and speed are matters of pride.

They're fantastic graham. Thank you :) Someone wrote back and mentioned _Sideshow_, and when I looked up the cover image I recognised it (ah, hooray for airbrush sf covers!)

You're fantastic Drew! Yep, Spares's huge for me. I've writtren one article on him, and am writing another now.

And I am sure you are right about Sideshow! I am so pleased. rec.arts.sf.written yielded Sideshow too, and as soon as I saw the cover image I recognised it.
