A list of 99 things that happened that were actually pretty good this past year.

Don't forget the Ebola vaccine.

I am delighted to hear about the decreased acid pollution, global malaria deaths, deaths in childbirth, etc. I am significantly less worried about America losing its best and brightest bragging rights than about America (a) losing its ability to function as a country (b) seriously injuring other countries/the planet in the process.

I did read about the Ebola vaccine. I think it's a good thing but it's so far unproven. Completely eliminating mother-child transmission of AIDS and syphilis struck me as pretty amazing, given how deeply ensnared Thailand's women and children are in the involuntary sex industry, not to mention human trafficking.

That said, I agree with you that the US is quite likely to take over China's role as the planet's biggest poisoner. I'm less concerned about its inability to function as a country - I think things in four years will be approximately as dysfunctional as they've been for the last six.

It was tested in the epidemic; it was extraordinarily effective as a control measure and as a preventative. I agree that's not the same as a seal from the FDA, but it's also not the same thing as a theory.
