the "can't win, don't try" annals, instance #192

It has been a lonely summer. As I briefly mentioned, the last people I still saw regularly- honestly, the last people that I still saw at all- moved away at the beginning of June, and I have spent literally everyday alone since then, save my parents, who I am anything but close to. The closest thing I've had to a friend since that time has been the ( Read more... )

That's alright, there's not always something for people to do, especially people as far removed as you and most of my other readers. Just having people who cares enough to read and provide anything but a vacuum in which to vent once in a while is something I appreciate greatly. Besides, it wasn't so long ago that finally one friend did something for me that's been overlooked or omitted by many others, whether she meant to or not; it helped my spirit tremendously.

So contrary to my writings, it's not *always* awful *all* the time. =)

Next week I'll get to meet with those surgeons and learn the true severity of my hip problem, and for better or worse, that will at least provide me a bit more peace of mind, through better understanding. And afterward, I will still meet this girl from Australia, not quite in the way that I'd hoped or pictured it, but still, at least I'll meet her.

Segway to the rescue! acmedunveiled July 18 2008, 23:18:32 UTC
I'm currently trying to find a Segway dealership that will rent a segway to you for use in the city. I read an article about a doctor who had limited mobility, but used his Segway all over indoors and out. If we can find one, I'll cover at least $250 of the rental cost. (Ah, flush with money for a good friend with a good reason...) (Only if you want, of course - it's your choice.)

If we can't find one, but you want to come visit me, I'll see if I can get you a ticket here (only if you want). Or... get me a ticket there (see my last letter). Or... some other good reason...

Most of the time you can't solve a problem by throwing money at it, but sometimes if you throw some love and ingenuity at the same time, it works out. I wish things were easier for you, we all do.

oh no, I wanted to say something uplifting, but now I don't know how! anonymous September 14 2008, 18:32:30 UTC
I'd never heard of avascular necrosis before... but it sounds horrid!

Sometimes I really don't know if medicine is worth it... it seems like the side effects outnumber the pros.

And I have to say, that even when your entries have a bit of soulcrushing news, I thoroughly enjoy your writing style. If you ever wrote a book, I'd buy it, haha.

I'm sure that when your friend comes (came?) you would still manage to have a good time! How could you not have fun in Seattle? I've never been there, but it's definitely on my "Top 10 List of Places to Go When I Win the Lottery and Travel Profusely."

And hey--even if life sucks, at least we live in an age with videogames.
