Mikado was a traumatized child.
His father beat him. He saw his mother die in the process of protecting him from his father. His past lovers were dominant abusive males too. So when he came to Ikebukuro he had hoped that things would change. However, he was soon further traumatized by being raped by a couple of guys from a gang called "The blue squares". This happens 2 more times, by the same people, until finally on the third time it happens Izaya happens to walk by and for his own entertainment, scares the men away. This poor traumatized mikado reminded Izaya of who he was once like. SO Izaya tries the help the kid by taking him to therapy and what not.
