It's not until Lexie leaves that everything she's said starts to coalesce in Meredith's head. In her half-sister's presence, she only has the energy required to keep up the conversation and to fight off thoughts of some off-shoot future and of her - their - father. Sean's been trying to read, the words refusing to coalesce into anything that wants to stick in his mind, for an embarrassingly long time, and it comes as a fairly palpable relief to be able to drop the book and lean back in his seat when Meredith comes in. Meredith leaves her bag on the table as she passes (it can't just be dropped on the floor anymore; in spite of her best efforts at training, there's still really only so far she can trust Doc, and a bag on the floor is just a temptation for him). Hands on the arm of the chair, she leans down to kiss Sean. Back here with him in their home, it's a little easier not to give a damn who's gone or arrived or gotten married back in some other world, to forget to consider it. "Hi," she says. "I'm guessing I didn't miss anything interesting?"

Meredith shrugs, straightening up to take her hair down from its ponytail, raking her fingers through her hair after. "You know how the clinic is," she says. "It's a banner day if I see anything worse than a paper cut." It would be easy enough to leave it at that, but while she'd rather not go into the details, she's got no reason to hide the rest of her day. "And I... talked to Lexie, which was weird."
