AGREED! It can even be a discussion about the most relaxed and chilled topics- yet it still installs an uneasiness that I have yet to overcome. I would rather wash all the dishes in our apartment by hand than make a mandatory phone call!
Of course when I'm calling people that I know- there's no ill will or negativity directed toward the individual. But if I could avoid that phone call and have someone do it for me, I'll take that opportunity!
SAME HERE, once I'm on the phone talking I can start feeling okay but usually it can involve me pacing around the room or swaying my head to and fro in order to have a natural rhythm in my speech.
Well yeah with I.T. people at least you know that they are speaking to you because it's their career choice to talk about devices they're comfortable around. I also find I.T. people to have the funniest sense of humor. Probably because they get to hear the most hilarious problems ever heard by phone.
It could be that by putting the calls you least want to do at the end of your rotation, you're setting yourself for more anxiety. Try getting the more anxiety-generating calls out of the way first once and see if that changes things?
A "tear the band-aid of the skin quickly to make it hurt less" approach eh? Just the thought makes me shiver. But I'll give it a try if the chance comes up again. ^_^
Ha! It takes me just about the same amount of time to prepare a conversation. I'm also very infamous for bringing index cards to regular conversations, that way I can remember exactly what I wanted to talk to someone about without getting weirded out. ( Any opportunity to make it seem like I know what I'm talking about! )
Ha! I actually feel more sorry for the person on the other line than I do myself making the anxious phone call! Especially if they've been waiting a long time for me to call in the first place.
