In my world history classes we're talking about Medieval Europe right now. Today was all about kings, knights, serfs, and all that fun stuff. I was pretty shocked when he asked too -- He's one of the (relatively) quiet ones who you wouldn't expect something like that from. I guess his curiosity overcame the fear of asking the question.

i don't think I'm brave enough to ask a question like that :)

There's a long standing story that the word stands for For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, too. But according to multiple sources, it goes back to a Germanic root (Dutch and Norwegian have similar terms) and possibly all the way to Indo-European, though the exact root word is unknown.
If you type the word in at Snopes, you'll get a detailed discussion of this and why the acronym versions don't hold up.
