Organic Gardening book recommendation?

Feb 14, 2010 22:47

At work, I signed up to get a 10 by 10 plot of land on which I can garden organically. Not being a gardener, let alone an organic one, can anyone recommend a good simple book about organic gardening?  The library here has lots of them, but I have no idea where to really start. :)

I like all the Rodale's books...hefty and complex, but I think they'll appeal to you.
I also really favor the approach of doing what *feels* natural. Intuitive. Talk to the land. Listen. Sit with it. It's the way I've always gardened. Basically, dig a hole, put something in it, and take care of it every day. It's what my mom taught me to do. I gardened my own plot one summer in college and grew more produce than I could carry each day. Literally.
Look at companion planting.
Read the farmer's almanac.
If you're sharing space with others, talk to your neighbor gardeners to find out if there's anything they do or recommend for that particular piece of dirt (and so you can cooperate with their methods).
Have fun!!

Coincidence! I'm neck-deep in gardening books for my own 10'x10' plot right now. Let me know what recommendations turn out well, as it's almost time to clear the land out here.
