Dr Who S34E8-12

I am so far behind in my reviews of stuff - sigh. Last few episodes of Series 8 of Doctor Who, and a continuation of episodes of wildly variable quality, or at least deeply divisive. I've heard some people actually liked The Forest of the Night, for one thing.

But first there was Mummy on the Orient Express, and Flatline, two scripts by a new Dr ( Read more... )

It's been a hell of a ride. ^_^ Overall, definitely, I'm really happy with Capaldi - the guy's brought some good old style brashness to the part, and in some style.

The Mummy I did enjoy, yes. I'd have liked a little more time for the pain endured by the poor guy, but they did try to end on that, at least. Beautifully styled, of course.

BTW, did you realise this newcomer writer also previously wrote a (rather good) flick? "Frequently Asked Questions about Time Travel". =:D

Loved the finale. I did approve of the nod to the Brigadier on board the flight, and then the actual farewell... wow. A daring move, indeed, but it worked.

I'd probably put Mummy as my favorite of the season, actually.

There's some muttering that the minor fandom insert character was actually a shapeshifter, in who's company we last saw her.

As for the plot, I think Ms M was pushed before she was ready to act, which was why the foes were so easily subverted and defeated. She needed all the souls already on board with the emotion issue, and Danny made clear that didn't happen.

When the Doctor first noted the gravity issue in "Kill the Moon" I thought that was rather clever... and then the rest of the thing ruined it.

Damn. I need a new icon of the Doctor.

Edit: that's better.
