Entry 3: Bombs, Blood, and Bone (Unsoiled Sovereignty)

Feb 21, 2007 17:00

Kate requested some time ago that I post my journal entry about the Planet R bombings, in which I played a large role. I'm only too happy to oblige. I'm sorry I couldn't post these sooner but the flu's being going around the office and I succumbed to it. Hard to type when you're hacking up a lung. At any rate, here it is. Fascinating.

I have to say that I don't think Sam was respectful of you. You're a colleague and she seems to have treated you more like a patient.

Sam, at times, is more condescending than she means to be. She's really a study in opposites. She seems so meek at certain times and then other times, like that one, she comes down on you like a ton of bricks.

I don't particularly agree with using reverse psychology on a friend or a colleague. I think I mentioned in the entry that it angered me. It's a habit of hers that angered quite a few people over the years.

I didn't know it at the time-- rather, I didn't know the reason for it at the time-- but Sam also has a blind spot to other people's tragedy. She can be intuitive and sensitive about it, but she also internally calculates how it measures up against her own. The times that we butted heads during the Jack case was often because she couldn't move out of her own private painful space and empathize with others.

Forgive me, I've rambled more than your comment warranted. Thanks, as ever, for reading. I'm glad to know that you're out there and taking an interest.

I must say you seem to have a rather astute grasp of psychology yourself. I wonder what might have happened had they asked you for your take on Jack...

I am sorry to hear you caught the flu. It was going around my office too...crazy illness.
You guys do such great work.
That sounds scary having to actually go into the field.
Maybe you and Morgan can have dinner one night with me and George, when you and Geo aren't working. Let me know.
