The Procrastination Bug and Me

Jun 11, 2015 11:21

So I felt like I should write a post today as I haven’t really written much on the old journal since Friday so I sat down with a mug of tea and opened up the browser... then spent and hour and a half surfing the web, replying to emails and messages and looking at and commenting on other peoples posts. I’m such a great journaler (is that a word ( Read more... )

Ooh, covers of computer game themes sounds so good!

I would LOVE to see the orchestra that plays Final Fantasy music. They played the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago and the recorded versions are al on Spotify. They sound amazing!

The covers are good, he mostly does pokemon, 5 nights at freddies, zelda and kingdom hearts though so depends on your tastes in computer game music.

Oh and I was there at the Royal Albert! It was so amazing except that we were sat in front of a girl who every time a song ended or the conductor talked would let out a piercing scream which left us practically defended by the end! Its a fantastic experience which I hope to do again one day. I also went to a smaller one by the same conductor which just a small band in a church which was also excellent and a lot more intimate but the one in the Royal Albert was the best. Might go see when they are next doing it and see if I can afford to do it again... :)

Ok, now I'm jealous! If you do find that they're playing again then do let me know, I'd be very interested!

I know someone who went to a similar Zelda one a few weeks ago which sounded good.

I’ve just looked on their website and sadly no news of another UK one at the moment but I’ll keep you informed if I find anything out. The Zelda one sounds interesting, would love to go see that.

I have the same procrastination issue going but I don't put it down to me procrastinating but down to me not being able to focus on anything too long. There's so many ideas on what I want to do but I get so easily distracted... it's weird.... but we're both aware of it and that alone sometimes helps :)

Youtubed that natewantstobattle, really nice voice and I like the gamethemes idea

Yeah i think your right. In the last few weeks alone I've come up with about 5 different ideas for a story and every new one has pushed the old one aside. I just need to focus on one. Glad you liked the music recommendation :)

I have a feeling that you write really well when you put your mind to it. All of these ideas you're having with plots & characters -- do you write them down so you can have them for later. Maybe you're a spontaneous writer -- putting down everything that comes to your mind & then editing it afterwards. I've read somewhere that a writer writes something everyday --- doesn't matter if its good or bad -- the writer should just write & keep everything for later --- if he gets into the habit of writing & feels incomplete if he doesn't write each day, procrastination becomes less of a problem....

Cool maybe I should do that and just write something, even if its short, every day. I’ve heard others recommend that before but never considered it myself.I do write my ideas down and have a huge file of my computer full of half thought ideas that I do look over every once in a while. Thank you for the compliment too :)

Do you like to write lists? I know this helps me when I have either a ton going on or just feel inundated by all around me. Maybe try list-making, which is short and sweet. Might help to frame things. Plus it always feels so good to cross items off of a list!

I have done that in the past but not recently. I may try that, thanks for the advice :)

I agree with the above comment about making lists. I use a day planner and make a list of everything I want to get done that day, and bigger goals/ideas get broken down into daily steps. I know it really helps me, and it really is great to cross things off, even small things.

As for writing, I haven't written in a long while. I can't just write for the sake of having written something. Then I only churn out crap I don't like, it takes the fun and satisfaction out of it, and it becomes just another chore. I can write when inspiration hits me out of the blue, but that's it. I'm fine with that; not every writer is the same, and this works for me.

Cool thanks for your opinion on the matter. I suppose different things apply or appeal to different writers. The list thing is something I’m definitely contemplating, thanks :)
