A story

This is cross posted from my site, it's not often that I write about a thousand or so words, but I was inspired last night and felt like sharing with anyone not going to the site:

My first job in the art field lasted three years almost exactly. The company I worked for was going through layoffs and they let me know ahead of time, possibly ( Read more... )

All things considered, I got alot out of my education at the Art Institute, though I am somewhat resentful of the fact that the piece of paper I recieved at the end is pretty much useless, making teaching not an option for me unless I want to get through a four year degree as fast as I can. Beyond that, yeah, lessons on shady dealings would have been nice, and yes, I was completely delusional to how the creative field would be after school. My entire career began 100% by being in the right place at the right time. Who in the world finds a job by sending out portfolios when he or she lives in VT? it just doesn't happen, but I got very, very lucky. You and I were also extremely lucky at being in AIPH when we were, because the teachers we had were generally way better than we probably could have hoped for with Fain, Hayze, um, shoot. There were at least a few more in there I can't remember, but they all started to leave at or around the time I was graduating, so I shudder to think who replaced them all. I recall one woman who had just ( ... )

HAHAHAH True!

Man, I feel like a jerk for not remembering Elder. He was the last of my big three list of really excellent teachers there with Fain and Hayz (Hayze?) I heard they are fully accredited now, and that's great for the people there now, but woah is me with this useless thing. I actually don't even know where my "diploma" is. I haven't seen it since I graduated, I think.

Wow, it's really interesting that you think Ron is the worse of the two. I don't necessarily disagree, but I've always had it in my head that Shelley was more responsible for all the financial side, while Ron was more or less just the creative director. Of course, I got no love for either of them, but for the "special kind of hell" we went through, I blame Shelley.

I also found it really funny that she tried the same bullshit on the court as she used to try on us. "But, your honor, we're gonna sign this great deal, but the banks closed early today, and then a bunch of people from that company are going on vacation, and, and..."

Thanks Neal! One of these days I'm going to buy a mixer and start podcasting all the stories I have that Christine had heard 30 times already and has threatened to kill me if I tell them in her presence again.

I wasn't around as long as you were, so in my mind, Shelly was just this person in an office who did things I had no knowledge of. In my mind, Ron was the one in charge of the direction and focus of the company, and his pride led to this ultimate failure which burned so many people. From a legal standpoint it's true that Shelly was responsible for what she did wrong and deserves what she got, but my contention is that she wouldn't have had to get to that point if Ron hadn't been such a colossal asswipe and staunchly opposed doing work that would have brought money into a company that had none. Which is why to me, Ron is responsible.

Drew-
You know I just noticed in that article this line: accused of using false claims to obtain big bank loans that she used to try to buy a $3 million dream home on Mercer Island.

She was going to buy a house with it? That's even worse than having a pie in the sky dream about making a studio work.

I seem to remember Jason mentioning something about her buying a house on Mercer Island some time after her and Ron split. I wondered how they had any money left for themselves.
