Yesterday I was following a German guy on the autobahn. He quickly got up 160 kpm (~100mph) and I nearly lost him. When we got to our destination I told the group that he was driving really fast and one guy responded with "what's the problem?". European culture serves wine (and in Germany, if it's anything like Austria, beer) with most meals. In Bosnia, some families offered a little rum or brandy. It's only Americans who took the Temperance Movement seriously. I don't know if any other country has tried to outlaw alcohol, but i doubt few have succeeded in changing their constitutions. We probably rely less on alcohol because we're the "New World" and our water sources were not as polluted initially as those found in Europe and the Roman empire. This is my 30-seconds-of-thought theory on the topic.

Also, Germans think you are really weird if you don't drink alcohol.

That's cuz you are.

Weirdo.

I don't deny being weird, but in our culture it's a little rude to tease someone you don't really know. You guys are my friends so it's different.

Perhaps, Americans are afraid to get involved in a touchy topic like alcohol.
