You're the ONLY one who can drive stick?! Wow! No wonder they sent you over there!! ;-) BTW, don't think I'm going to ever be in that situation, so I think I should be ok....

Anyway, dad's theory is that someone isn't performing up to par, so they're bringing you in either to scare them into working harder or to take their place on some task. Made more sense when he said it. But, I'm going to tell him the stick thing anyway! :-)

Love you!!

Actually, I found out Akira knows how to drive stick, but he only has had experience with driving Japanese cars.

And I don't think they're trying to replace anyone with me. I'm just here to support them, they just have to give me more to do.

My family is seriously considering letting me pick up a beat up old car and fix it up (learning a lot about car mechanics in the process, which I want to do) with the help of a friend who rebuilds and races cars for fun so that we can have a car to give to my little brother when he graduates from HS in 2 years. I've decided that it will be one with a manual transmission, because my parents don't currently have a stick on which to teach him. When I learned, I wasn't even allowed to touch the car with an automatic tranny until I could drive the stick to my dad's satisfaction. His logic- and I agree with him wholeheartedly now- is that if I could drive a stick, I could drive pretty much anything on the road. I of course prefer the control a manual transmission gives you anyway, and they get better mileage on the whole

(the fact that manual transmissions are 10 orders of magnitude simpler to work on than automatics has nothing to do with this decision, of course :P)

Oh, and I think it should be 'Aufviedersehen'. If my memory holds it literally translates to 'when I next see you', being a combination of 'Auf', 'Vieder', and 'Sehen'.

I still remember a good bit of German- but I always sucked at the conjugation and getting tenses/genders of words right.

In Germany they drive on the same side of the road as the US...but I have to agree that driving w/the shifter on the left would be weird.

Actually, all of Europe drives on the right except for Britian and even those countries that drive on the left the pedals are exactly the same.

Someone has suggested going to the wine country already, but I don't drink so I'm not sure how fun it would be. There are plenty of castles to go see so I might do that.

Oh, and a lot of people are saying ciao. More on the phone, though.

How fun/exciting to be over seas on someone elses dime! :) :)

Yeah, I hate stick shift. Jason tried to teach me, but... well, it didn't go very far. I was so relieved when he crashed that truck and bought an automatic! (I wasn't relieved about the crash part, but I had no sorrow when he got an automatic car. :) :) )
