The Trapped in a Lift Meme

Your character steps into a lift/elevator for whatever reason. Someone steps in with him or her, and the door closes. It creaks up a few floors.

And then it stops. The emergency button shocks anyone who touches it.

[John is standing in a corner, scowling and nursing his right hand. Yes, someone just got shocked.]

[Sherlock sighs purposefully with a roll of his eyes.]

You are pulling my leg. [He appears to be posing the question to the universe at large, glaring disdainfully up at the ceiling.]

Well this is just brilliant. [He sounds as if it's anything but, crossing his arms and leaning back against the wall. He glances at John with a look that says 'What are you waiting for? Fix it.']

[John knows that look.] Oh, come on Sherlock. I'm a doctor, not a bloody mechanic.

[He realises the Star Trek reference a moment later and snorts.]

[Sherlock raises an eyebrow as he fishes in his coat pocket for his mobile.]

I'm aware of that. [He growls and shakes his head as he looks at his phone.]

No signal. Of course there's no signal. [He pockets his phone, with an obviously frustrated sigh. He casts a glance around the lift, looking for something to help them or something to while away the time figuring out. He settles on John. He might regret asking, but what else was he going to do?]

Right, I give. What's funny?

[John's nerves are betrayed by nothing except a hard, visible swallow as he steps into the lift. Facing forward, at attention, he looks up as the lit number begins to steadily increase. His hands clench tightly and he breathes steadily, preparing himself for anything. Anything except the sickly creak and sudden jolt before a whirring seems to signify the cessation of any operation of the machine. He sighs and rolls his eyes back, his posture slumping very slightly as he rounds and goes back toward the back of the lift. He tries the call button but feels the sharp sting of an electrical impulse in his fingertips and swears something inaudible under his breath.]

"Factored into your cunning plan, I'm sure?"

[Mycroft taps his umbrella softly against the floor as John decidedly ignores his presence. When the lift stops, at precisely 10:53 in the morning by his watch, John still refuses to look at him. Mycroft watches with endless amusement as John tries the call button. As if he would ever be silly enough not to plan for every eventuality.]

"Doctor Watson, don't play the idiot with me. It only insults us both. Of course this was planned."

[His lips curve into a smile as he leans against the railing. This amuses him already. He sees, not for the first time, exactly why Sherlock is so fascinated by this man.]

"We need to have a talk."

[Oh, Sarah did not need this. Not now- she's tired and harassed and a bit cold, and she'd really like to just get out.

And now the lower half of her arm's numb. Brilliant.]

[lestrade curses. loudly. he can tell that today is going to be one of those days-- and to be entirely frank, he's been having far too many of those recently. he shakes his sore hand out with a scowl, not at all appreciating the now unpleasant tingling that's creeping up and down his arm. being shocked is decidedly un-fun.]
