We had two lots of customers coming on Tuesday, plus one on Wednesday evening, so ravenrigan came on Monday as there was a lot to get ready...

She started by doing  a LOVELY job on Peter's waistcoat, so that left me to fettle more coat bling, finish the pockets in the tails, and get the sleeves in, the lining in. and the collar on.

It certainly got a ( Read more... )

Good cage, innit! And having made this one, I know how to make the next one much better for less agony! :D

As for the partying... Good food (I hope! Love cooking), nice wine, great company, sewing, bling, banter... What more could a gal need, unless it's an event at which to wear the frocks!

I made epaulets, but I like this idea. I did a costume with 57 buttons...

Holy hoop skirts!

I send you sympathy for working in netting/tulle. I hate it. Made a crinoline, it look like a bride exploded in my room while making it.

Poor cornflake!

I think my button record was 64 on one outfit...

The cage crinoline was fun. The green thing? Not so much.

That green netting just brings back memories of making what felt like three million miles of net ruffles for an entire chorus in G&S. We sawed the rolls into slices, took one end of a slice and fed it through an old treadle singer with a ruffling attachment and went on at express speed until we had finished, then picked up the next slice. Rattle rattle rattle, scratch, and scrape! It was a vile job! Still have the scars on my fingers!

I did much the same for the dozen bridesmaids in Trial by Jury. Despite having a bunch of A level Needlework students supposedly helping, I was the only kid in school who knew how to use the ruffler on the schools 'very posh' Bernina that did all the fancy stitches! That was when I got told off for not being in the A level needlework class, as I sewed better than all the girls who were! Oh, the joys of sixth form somewhere in England!

More like Trial by Petticoat this week! :D

It's great, isn't it. Glad you like the kit. It's fun, but quite hard on the fingers.
