Now My Apartment Looks Like Christmas

Jan 03, 2007 15:11

I got my held mail today, finally, and opened all my Christmas cards. (Oh, minus the two I got at the office yesterday, including the annual New Years' greeting card from my publisher. That's a hoot, that I get holiday greetings from my publisher like any real author.) The dining room wall is decorated with its usual green string, which is now full ( Read more... )

Hi... I am here from violet_memory's journal. I was curious so I checked your bio: We are in similar places -- R1, dissertating, and teaching. I am interested in adding you and reading along in your journey if you are interested in someone who is going through the same.

Go for it, and welcome -- I think we have at least one other common friend, rainswolf maybe?, as I think I've seen your name on comments before.

Cool :) Looking forward to getting to know you better. I tend to comment more than I write these days, but I am starting to get back into the swing of posts again.

That last paragraph could refer to my mother, who never sends anything - yet she really enjoys getting cards. Weird.

We don't even know if they GET them or like them or anything. Things go in the mail and you never hear of it again. My grandmother sends them checks in their birthday and Christmas cards, and I bet if Kris hadn't physically been under the same roof as Gram when she got her card this year there wouldn't have been a thank-you. They've both got free long distance on their cell phones, but can't manage to spare a minute to call Gram. The woman was in the HOSPITAL for five days - her nieces and nephews, whom we rarely see, called, but her GRANDKIDS couldn't be bothered to even call my mom to find out how she was, let alone call the hospital or send flowers or something.

If you can't tell, that behavior PISSES ME OFF. //vent.

Are you sure our families aren't related? I'm all too familiar with this sort of behaviour from a couple of people. Basically people who send birthday cheques to them would have to check their own cheque account to know if the mail was received. It gets worse as time goes by.

I'd be annoyed too, but I'm too resigned. Sigh.
