I really like this--it has the effect of making their life seeming quiet and settled even though it's anything but, by most peoples' standards.

One of the things I like about this is that even though it's good (and oddly comforting) to see Sam and Dean still being Sam and Dean after so many years, I find I'm on the fence as to whether or not I consider this a happy ending for them.

It's sort of supposed to be a bit ambiguous like that. It's not so much a happy ending, because I don't think they even could have that... it's just what there is, in the end, when everything and everyone else is gone. I'm pretty sure the boys think it's happy enough, since neither of them is dead. :P

I love the way you managed to settle them without domesticisng them. They are totally recognisable here as the Sam and Dean we know and love on screen. Thanks for a great read.

i love this. if they don't go down in fire, i think this is what the boys will be in fifteen years - still hunting, still themselves. i like that the nightmares have stayed with dean, because i really think they will, but i also like that he's learned how to deal with them, and they they're less frequent. but the thing i really like is that after all this time, the boys are still together, and nothing is going to come between them ever again.
