Part 1

Silence is Bliss

Of course, that didn’t last long.

As I said, Daisy does not know how to keep quiet, so a few shocked seconds after the kiss she put her hands on her lips and grinned. “I shoulda known this would happen.” She declared with a knowing smile. “My beauty is unrivaled, after all, and it’s not like you were particularly subtle about your preference. The clothes, the hair, and your job! Darling, nobody works as a meter maid if they wouldn’t mind spending their life with a man with money. You might not be as pretty as me, but you aren’t that bad looking.”

Why that self-absorbed little… “I’m dead! Why would I marry-“

“Exactly my point.” She beamed, picking up her purse and her scattered junk in a series of quick movements, turning away from me. I opened my mouth to ream her a new one but no words could properly express my feelings. A punch would’ve done the trick but she was already out of reach. “You, are one of the many women who just aren’t wired that way.” She continued, giving me a look of sympathy I wanted to wash off her pretty face with something dangerous (acid, bleach, grease from a MacDonald’s waste bin…) “Now, I think it’s time you go home. Your day job starts early, doesn’t it?”

“I just wanted you to shut up!” I barked, grabbing her shoulder to turn her around to face me. “Is that too much to ask for?”

Those wide blue eyes just looked at me for a thoughtful moment, and then she kissed me. It was an aggressive kiss that gave me the choice of kissing back or stepping away. I never back away from a fight.

She pulled away first, face flushed with triumph. “See?!” She pushed me towards the door before I realized what was happening, kissing me again at the doorstep when I turned around to yell at her.

Then she pulled away and shut the door in my face. “See you tomorrow!”

“DAISY!” I can’t believe this! I tried to open the door but the little minx already locked it.

I was seriously considering climbing through a window so I could strangle her when George came into sight. When she saw me sitting on the step, she froze on the walkway, looking side-to-side for an escape path. “Um… Hi Roxy.”

“What?” I snarled.

“… Nothing, I don’t wanna know.” She muttered. “I’m going to go… somewhere… for some amount of time… Do you know how long you’ll be on the step?”

“I’m leaving.”

She almost jumped out of my way.

Seems like my epiphany caused more trouble than anything else. Go figure.
