(crossposted to tagalog)

ptiza_schastya asked for some Filipino terms for food in an earlier post in the tagalog community. I thought it would be fun to start compiling a list of these things, but there are just so many... so I decided to at least make a list of Tagalog translations for common vegetables and fruits ( Read more... )

sitaw = "string beans, small"
bataw = "string beans, medium"
patani = "string beans, large"

As taken from the Dolphy/Panchito version of Bahay Kubo.

So do I. The first time I heard that song, I thought I would die laughing, I could hardly breathe through it. Hm. I think I'll post the bits of the lyrics that I remember on my LJ.

spinach = alugbati(?)

alugbati is totally different from spinach. Alugbati is purplish in color. We call spinach kulitis. Not too sure about how others call it. ^^;;

string beans = sitaw / kundol (rare)

Err kundol is definitely a different thing. If I recall correctly, kundol is some sort of a gourd. Not too sure which gourd, I think it's the wax gourd.
