Because it's warm, of course! A feline will do about anything to get a bit of a warm spot... *ggg* You could try putting a nice cardboard box, preferably with a fleece lining, close by, this often works when I want cats not to lie in some spot (just imagine how my desk looks ;o) ). Or you can put something on top which will making lying down uncomfortable, something that prickles... but then, cats are surprisingly resilient when it comes to prickling surfaces. :D

My Zoe does the same thing. She loves to curl up on the cable box to snooze.
