I've updated "Eleventy-one Years: Too Short a Time"!

In Chapter 19, it's Rethe (March) and things seem to be going from bad to worse. But spring has to come sometime...

That'd be completely sweet. :) I loved the little hobbit children in FOTR. (And I love Sir Ian for using the phrase "full of beans". *g*)

I'm still wishing for a glimpse of a 10-year-old Estel somewhere in the Rivendell scenes, though I haven't heard even a whiff of a rumor about it, so I have my doubts it will happen. I'll just have to imagine him hiding in the bushes, watching.

I kind of doubt it. He said somewhere that he's adhering to the timeline he set for LotR, which takes out the 17 years between Bilbo leaving and Frodo leaving. Since he kept Aragorn's original age, he'd be in his early 20's in movie-verse and probably off Thorongil-ing somewhere.

But, yeah, I think a glimpse of little Estel would have been cool too.

Loved that little green sprig of hope at the end. That's how I feel after a long winter in Boston! Of course, I have much more to eat and central heating. That's what is so effective for these chapters of Eleventy-One Years during The Long Winter: you capture the desperation of the hobbits in a very realistic way. Very effective use of Farmer Button's observation, that is, he's seeing something truly amiss in Bungo's health (or lack thereof).

He suggested a scene showing the wizard being introduced to a baby Bilbo and his mother Belladonna Took and it was shot.

OMG. I hope that makes the cut. Baby Bilbo would be a treat but THE FABULOUS BELLADONNA! Oh, YES!

Thanks! I was beginning to get as weary of the Fell Winter as the hobbits were, and was ready to see the back end of it myself. These chapters have been hard to write, actually, and yet I felt I owed it to them (and to Bilbo) to show just what they had to go through.

I think of Farmer Button as a shrewd old fellow, much like Farmer Maggot.

I do hope that scene does show up! Even if it is very short.
