I love your characterization, and how every chapter has Hildifons' "voice". Seeing the Rangers and the elves through his eyes (and his journal) as well as seeing Bilbo's reaction to what he's read in the journal has been a lovely experience so far.
I admit that I sniffled through the last chapter and this one. It had to have been so hard to accept the death of Arador, his oldest friend amongst the Dunedain.
Oh my, this is truly an epic tale, and one that could so easily have happened exactly like this. You're giving us an entirely new way of seeing the Rangers, the hobbits, Gandalf, and many events that needed filling out.
